It is very important to protect solar access in residential areas
for comfortable human life. Because the factors of protecting
solar access are very various according to the layout pattern of
building and the relation to surrounding buildings, only with
the distance between the southern single building and solar
access measuring point, includes many problems to establish
standards for protecting solar access. That is, protecting solar
access, in fact, is affected by all surrounding buildings as well
as the southern single building.
The purpose of this paper is to describe "shadow chart" based on
the latitude of site, the season of reason with applying the method
of shadow chart which is available to evaluate solar access in
consideration of surrounding buildings at the same time in Korean
weather. This shadow chart can be used to measure shading hours,
describe shading hour figure, and plan the form of building and the
layout pattern in considering solar access.
