This study is to inquire into Korean architects' forcasts of consequences of opening the
architectural design market in Korea, counterplans planned by those architects who run their own
architectural firms, and to suggest fundamental data needed for preparing rational counterplans for
the future of architectural firms in Korea. The questionaire as the main research tool of this study is
made of contents of 1.personnel and organizational strategies, 2.operating management strategies,
3.the quality of design products, and 4.the design information system. As the result, First,
concurrently with opening the architectural design market, architectural firms in Korea will undergo a
serious stalemate in securing high quality manpower in future. Second, it seems that the
advancement of foreign architectural firms into the local market will be remarkably expanded. Third,
local architectural design firms will suffer from managenal difficulty right after opening the market.
Fourth, for the purpose of competition with overseas architectural firms, above all the construction
and utilization of an information system on architectural design are considered a prerequisite.
