    In this paper, we propose a new method to extract line spectrum pair (LSP) parameters based on the model difference function (MDF). MDF is defined as the spectral difference between the spectrums of linear predictive models of order m and m-1. There are m-1 frequency points where the values of MDF take on either maximum or minimum between zero and half sampling frequency. We show that these frequencies are exactly same to the LSP frequencies of order m-1, which can be found by searching all the frequencies where the first derivative of MDF is zero. And, the LSP frequencies of order m also can be obtained from this MDF. We derive the expression for the mth order LSP frequencies. Also, we prove two useful properties. One is that the set of LSP frequencies of order m does not include any m-1th order LSP frequency. The other is that the LSP frequencies of order m and m-1 are interlaced with each other.
