In this paper, we discuss the requirements of the wireless service with broad range of applications, and present several types of architecture for future mobile network. After a brief comparative analysis, we propose a most practical and feasible one. We also present specifically a functional architecture of the wireless access node on the basis of the future fixed ATM network. Based on the architecture, we believe that the integrated system can be realized with such advantages of easy interworking, high feasibility on common services, easy introduction to new services, and unified operation.
