In order to support the interconnection of remote LANs(Local Area Networks) via a B-ISDN (Broadband-Integrated Service Digital Network), we describe some standardiztion-issues posed by interconnecting networks and suggest efficient methods for resolving these issues. Our developed LAN B-TA(Broadband-Terminal Adaptor) system is a router that supports direct and indirect LAN interconnection methods. The LAN B-TA system uses only a network address of LAN for address filtering, address resolution and connection establishment function. This paper also describes the functions and organizations of a LAN B-TA system that can interconnect ethernet-LANs and a B-ISDN. requirements of possible future broadband services, it is necessary to support not only high speed data transmissions such as a LAN interconnection but also moving picture services. With the increases of LANs and the greater availability of high-speed communication lines, the need for the interconnection of homogeneous existing LANs is continuously growing, and LANs can use a B-ISDN to overcome their geographical limitations. When a B-ISDN becomes commercially available in the public network, the interconnection of remote LANs will be an important high-speed data service.
