Some qualities about Kim Sa-ryang's view of literary language are considered in this thesis. To do this, primarily, the atmosphere of the times by the 1940s and the national literature are considered.
When the common use of the Japan language is going to be stronger, Chosun writers should not be free from a sense of crisis. In the situation of their mother tongue being degraded into 'a seed of a problem', many Chosun writers are tainted rapidly with the imperial motto, that is, a mother tongue of a people without a nation is meaningless. Finally, many 'the Kim Yong-jes' cry 'Japan, our country!'. Naturally, the mother tongue loses the priority. On the background of such atmosphere of the times, Kim Sa-ryang begins to write his works in dual languages. The Qualities of Kim Sa-ryang's view of literary language are as follows.
In the first place, the mother tongue should be used basically. It is assured by his comment, "Chosun literature can be established by Chosun writers' using Chosun language. He knows well the risk resulted from the use of the Japanese language instead of using mother tongue. In spite of this, the motive of his writing in Japanese is the writer's strategy. It is a passive resistance against the Japanese imperialism
In the second place, the aim of his using Japanese is for having 'the intermediate effort'. It is an effort to inform the Japanese and the world having a universal humanity of Chosun or Chosun people's reality, and thus to accuse the reality objectively. To do so, for standing up to the strategy of the Japan's rule, he devise an idea; changing the notion, a nation vs a nation into a people vs a people. By doing this, he overcomes the imperial view of language, that is one language is more superior to the others. and also, by setting the Japanese language as a people's language, he stress that Chosun language as a people's language, though in the Japan's reign, equals to Japanese language.
In the third place, his view of literary language is opposed to the Japan-Korea-unison(內?一體). After all, the Japanese suppression for Kim Sa-ryang becomes harder. He dares to go to Yeon-an, not to refract his view. In this respect, his going for Yeon-an is a brave determination for the subjecthood of otherness; to perfect his view of literary language. His view of literary language is 'an output' much focused on what he writes, than by what he writes.
Accordingly, his view of dual literary language is a realistic alternatives for the Chosun language's survival, under the special case of a colony.
