In this research, how a certain type of perception, considering the Euibyeong /義兵 militia, the Naval forces and the Chinese Ming Reinforcements as saviors who have led the Imjin War to victoly, was created during the later days of the Chosun dynasty, will be examined. During the reign of King Seonjo(宣祖), evaluations of the government's own war efforts and the appointments of several vassals as meritorious retainers continued, and through that process the first perception regarding memories of the Imjin War was forged. At this time, the Naval forces and the Ming reinforcements were certainly deemed essential among many factors which saved the dynasty out of the horror of war. Yet the Euibyeong militia members' efforts were not yet fully realized in such processes.
Then the militia members began to receive spotlights, as nation-wide surveys searching for meritorious militia leaders were initiated, and notable rewards followed during the publication process of the 'Dongguk Shinsok Samgang Haengshil-do(東國新綠三綱行實圖)' which was ordered by King Gwanghae-gun (光海君). This was also an action politically beneficial to the King himself as Gwanghae-gun was being credited for organizing a lot of Euibyeong missions during wartime in his efforts to turn the tides of war. High evaluations of the militia members' actions continued. And especially, during the latter half period of the 17th century, when it became a general fashion to passionately promote the honor of the noble casualties of the Imjin War and hail them as saviors of the Junghwa(中華) order, everyone who were involved in militia activities began to be get promoted. In the process, the actions of the Euibyeong militia members were firmly embedded in the people's mind, as one of the most important factors that served and saved the country. We can see that the memory regarding the Imjin War was not established in a short period of time, but in a rather prolonged one as evaluation of the war itself continued. And the memory was being built upon memories created in such fashion.
