The purpose of this study was to know whether children's folk psychology is being influenced by their own culture or not. For this, I compared behavior explanations of Korean children with those of American children, of age 7, 9, and 11, asking them to explain others' good and bad behaviors. The scheme of the internal-external categories was used to code children's responses.
Results showed that children in the two cultures were different in behavior explanations with internal reasons. Less Korean children than American children explained others' behaviors with internal reasons. Developmentally, Korean 11Y children tended to use external explanations, in comparison to American 11Y children with internal explanations, for others' good behaviors. Moreover, when to explain specific situation offered by the researcher, the cultural differences were more evident.
