    The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of the economic education for the planned <Jeju Free International City>, and the feasible solution on what and how should be taught as effective economic education in school. Free International City is defined as the 'borderless city' in which the goods and capital are moved without any regal restriction. The plan of Jeju Free International City has characteristics such as openness, internationalization, sustainable of economy and environment, free market, and resident participation.
    For the successful construction of Jeju Free International City, the corresponding plan requires effective economic education in school which enhances the quality of the regional human resources as the infrastructure in the city. Several requirements for the effective economic education in school are the strategy for the uncertain world and future market, education on the market economy and human resource, and education for the rational decision making.
    This study examines the feasible and applicable methods of economic education in school for which folk songs of Jeju, legends, and proverbs are used to fulfil those requirements.
