The behavior of GDI spray impinging on an inclined wall was experimentally investigated. To clarify the wall effect on a high pressure gasoline direct injection, a relative angle of the inclined wall to a spray axis was varied. Spray penetration along the wall was observed optically and it was compared with that of a Fan type and Swirl type spray, To evaluate various spray motion quantitatively, a spray path penetration which described a development of a spray tip along the wall was newly introduced, To observe a structure of the impinging spray, it was visualized by a controlled stroboscope light and its visualized image was captured on an CCD camera. Using the digital image of impinging spray was extracted H₁ and R₁ to clarify the structure of impinging spray. The main parameter of the relative position of the wall was inclined angle which was defined as the angle was varied from 0˚(vertical impingement) to 60˚ At the same condition, The droplet size and velocity in the impinging spray flow field were measured using a PDPA system. Show the atomization of the droplet parameter SMD, AMD. Experimental results using PUPA show that the correlation between size and impinging angle is relative to the which has influence on impingement, but there is a linear correlation between dispersion and impinging angle.
Distribution of velocity, AMD and SMD arc decreased as the impinging angle increases at measurement points with Fan type and Swirl injector.
