The patients in this case report complained that they had felt a pain and restricted mobility during mandibular movement. Routine clinical and radiographic examination supported their symptoms. So we have diagnosed that they were disc displacement without reduction, tendinitis on temporomandibular ligament and myofascial pain on masticatory muscles and used to plan reversible treatments. But when the patients does not react to these treatments, we have to decide to employ arthrocentesis for these patients. After arthrocentesis was applied, significant effects were appeared in pain relief and correction of restricted mobility. And the effect was raised by intra-capsular medication with sodium hyaluronate. Moreover this treatment make facilitate the process of manipulation.
Therefore arthrocentesis is recommended to the patients who have disc displacement without reduction, which does not react to the several reversible treatments.
But, further studies and additional data collection will be necessary for practice of arthrocentesis.
