Recently, flexible fuel vehicle (FFV) has drawn great attention because of its response for
immediate use as altemative fueled one. This vehicle can be operated on arbitrary fuel mixtures between gasoline and M85 with the specially programmed electronic control unit (ECU) which can determine optimized fueling Quantity and ignition timing as the methanol content by the signal from electrostatic type fuel sensor. Hyundai Motor Company which has been developing FFVs for last five years is currently in the stage of field trials of several FFYs. In this paper, the results and experiences of field test which has been performed from May, '92 to Nov.. '92 are described including used oil analysis, conversion efficiency test with 5 k aged MCC and vehicle emission test. As the test results, serious durability problems have not
been observed under the general driving conditions. Total mileage accumulated during the test period is 13.1 k mile (21,000 km).
