In this study, the performance and heat release rate of Mazda 12-A rotary engine is carried out througr zero-dimensional simulations and experiments. These simulations consider heat transfer through chamber wall, gas composition, chemical equilibrium, and mass trans fer through ports. leakage area and crevice volume. few coefficients, which are concerned wi th mass and heat
transfer, were determined from the motoring and firing test, then applied to the heat release rate predicting model. A piezo-electric type pressure sensor is used to catch pressure of chamber near the roc, and these pressure signals were arranged for calculation of heat release rate. As the result, we got the tendency
of heat release rate of wankel rotary engine according to operating condition, and the performance of engine was predicted successfully under reasonable error range.
