The passive and causative verbs of the Hambuk dialect show differences from the Jungbu dialect "Central dialect" in the list of affixes and the conditions on affixation. For example, the affixes '-gj-'(passive suf.) and '-gu-'(causative suf.) are suffixed to the base of which stem final consonat is /1/, and the affixe '- i-' is suffixed to the base which is the stem showing peculiar and nonautomatic alternation. These can be regard as a reconstructed form originated from the pre-Late Middle Korean. Though affixation is executed under the certain phonological and morphological condition by the final phoneme of the base, it can not be explained by some synchronic phonological process. At the same time the Hambuk dialect has some passive and causative verbs which do not exist in the Jungbu dialect - that is, there are gaps in the passive and causative verb formation in the Jungbu dialect compared to the Hambuk dialect. Furthermore, some passive and causative verbs of the Hambuk dialect are
formed from the stem which otherwise can not be the base of the passive and causative derivation. And the passive and causative expressions by '-eo jida', '-ge hada' constructions can be formed by the passive and causative verbs. Above mentioned facts say that the passive and causative derivation of the Hambuk dialect is productive and the passive and causative sentence formation by lexical passive and causative verbs is more frequent in the Hambuk dialect than the Jungbu dialect. And the passive and causative verbs irrelevant to the passive and causative sentences and the newly formed passive and causative verbs resulted from the diachronic change of a stem can be regard to be formed by analogy based on the existing derived verbs.
