Kimsamui-dang is one of the women poets who wrote many poems during the late Chosun. The Confucian norm has taken its position in the period. Therefore, Samui-dang's Confucian life and her moral poetry may be the right path of women living in the time. When she has grown, Samui-dang swore to herself that she would
live a full life by mental principle, and tried to act up to it. That was her view, values and goal of life. Samui-dang defines a poetry as that springs up from one's mind and is clearly reflected as if we see his or her face. And she carried out the definition in her creative writing. Samui-dang grew up and got married having the attitude. On the first day of her marriage, she answered her husband with a poem of the ties between man and wife. Samui-dang and her husband, Damrak-dang, sang the beauty and faith of a couple; Damrak-dang praised his wife for that she would live her life with loyalty and filial piety. Samui-dang responded to it with that the Damrak-dang's family was full of filial piety, brotherly love and loyalty. Samui-dang's poetry and proses are classified by two topics. Most of them show the love of a couple, and the others are written for encouragmg her husband in studying. Samui-dang also expressed the seasonal appreciation in the lyrical poetry that she had felt in her grass widow's place: poems about a woman who leisurely gathers petals outside and of a willow whose twigs sway in a spring breeze. She was solitary woman always looking out the window and contemplating the spring garden. Samui-dang wrote the fall image as well: the moon, a well, and a woman staring outside of a window are the important materials in her poems. The woman who staring at the moonlight and missing her lover seems to be the Samui-dang's self-portrait. Damrak-dang's fail III the State Examination(Kwa-geo) made Samui-dang live a rural life. she was no longer a waiting woman but was enjoying the farmer's life, when she wrote more affectionate and naive poems. Her proses well show her country life. In her funeral odes, Samui-dang lamented bitterly the bereavement of her two children. Samui-dang's first daughter has died when she was eighteen years old in 1803, the third year of Sunjo. She became such a frail mother that she could not but expressing her grief as wishing her daughter to rest in a tomb. The other proses which she wrote are the letters to her husband. We can see her persistence in the State Examination. She wasn't disappointed at the news of her husband's fail nor abandon a hope but urged her husband to go ahead of the study. Samui-dang was an ambitious woman. She devoted herself to make her husband pass the State Examination, rise in the world and gain fame, and keep the honor to his family. She fulfilled herself in the Confucian moral consciousness and tried to complete the womanly virtues. She endured her own sacrifice since she thought a wise wife should make her husband succeed in life. While she had suffered two daughters' death, she kept wife's duty. She herself lived a hard and lonely life, but finished her lifetime without being the wise wife.
