"Saemangeum's reclamation works", which is a medium length story written by Hun-yong Cho, is an advanced eco-topic novel as much as "Contemplation on a snipe bird" by Won-il Kim. It is the purpose of an article to highlight on the worth of the "Samangeum's reclamation works" in comparing the similarity and the difference between two works.
First similarity is that there are multiple main characters not just single. In both of works, there are three main leading characters; father Kim and the elder brother Byung-kook and the younger Byoung-sik in "Comtemplation on a snipe bird" Tae-ho, Hae-wha, Han-bin Chang in "Samanguem's reclamation works". One is the relationship between father and son; the other 1S the relationship between grandfather, father and son.
Secondly, there is a multiple compound point of view in both of works; there are the first person narration and the author observer narration together. In samanguem, 'Boat grave' is very meaningful in symbol because many boats finally get faced deadly tragic ends in a result of the reclamation project. It is an implication of the tragedy in Chang's family as well as the tragedy of the boats itself, furthermore, the end of the fishermen in local samangeum. "Samanguem's reclamation works" is a specific contemporary ecological novel that describes how people lost their liveliness as the result of reclamation project that is the co-product of the big industry capitals and the bureaucracy.
