In this paper, traffic adaptive soft handoff (TASH) algorithm is proposed for IS-95 based cellular CDMA systems as a possible way to handle the traffic nonuniformity among cells. The proposed algorithm allows thresholds to be varied dynamically according to the traffic density of each cell. Computational experiments on TASH have been made and show that TASH increases the overall CDMA system performance compared with the conventional soft handoff algorithm with fixed thresholds.
