In the past, the exhibition was only considered important in museums. But nowadays museums are important not only as for spaces for exhibition but also as for collection storage, education etc. The purpose of this study is to analyze 'Workshop Area' of museums in Korea.
Spaces in a museum are largely divided into 8 parts; exhibition, collection storage, visitor service, education, administration, curatorial, technical support and workshop. The workshop area consists of rooms of workshop, laboratory, fumigation, wet cleaning, photo studio, X-ray laboratory, etc. For reference, the curatorial area consists of rooms of curator, meeting, seminar, computer, etc.
Workshop area need connections to curatorial area and collection storage area. This paper finds out the relationship between workshop area and other areas in the museum and the patterns of space organization which are needed in spaces of workshop areas at museums in Korea.
