The thermal performance of a heating board with microencapsualted PCM was investigated and compared to conventional heating board. The employed PCM was the myristic acid <CH₃(CH₂)₁₂COOH> and was encapsulated by the multiple layers of PMMA and paraffin wax. The size of encapsulated PCM was 1~1.5㎜.
From ANSI/ASHRAE 94.1(1985), the close-loop test configuration using an air as the heat transfer fluid was installed. And an orifice as airflow-measuring apparatus was used. Two different heating boards (0% and 10% of weight fraction) and three different air flow rates (0.03, 0.05, 0.07 ㎏/sec.) were used in the tests.
The results showed that the released heat rate was fast and the latent heat store effect was shown apparently in a heating board with an encapsulated PCM compared to conventional heating board.
And it was shown to increase uniformly a released heat rates from the surface of the heating board in 0.03 ㎏/sec flowrates.
