Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics for single phase flow of R-718 in counter flow multitube heat exchanger are measured. The test section consisted of 1~11 copper tubes of 3.36, 5.15, 6.34 and 7.92 ㎜ inner diameter, and distributors were located at the inlet and outlet of multitube heat exchanger for flow distribution. Refrigerant R-718 was used as a test fluid. The mass flux of refrigerant ranged from 350~1550 ㎏/㎡s and the temperature of refrigerant was 30℃~50℃. The mass flow of coolant was ranged 350~450㎏/h, and the temperature of coolant was about 10℃.
Experimental results for multitube heat exchanger were summarized as follows: 1) Nusselt numbers for multi tube heat exchanger with small diameter were a great higher than those of the prediction by Dittus-Boelter and Petukhov-Popov. But nusselt numbers in high mass flux deviated from those of Petukhov-Popov within +20%. 2) The friction factors for multitube heat exchanger using small diameter were a great higher than those of the predition by Blasius. The friction factors for multi tube heat exchanger in the every range of mass flux tend to be effected more the mass flux of the refrigerant and tube diameter than the increase in temperature of the refrigerant and the mass rate of the coolant. 3) The measured friction factor and heat transfer coefficient are compared with previous works, and the correlations for multi tube heat exchanger with small diameter tube are developed using a simple dimensionless form given by Blasius and Dittus-Boelter.
