There is an increasing need of innovative housing methods to secure sustainable housing stocks as the environmental preservation becomes a social issue and the housing supply ratio is improved.
In order to maintain housing stock, there has to be a shift from identical plans and construction methods for mass production to houses of individualism which responds to various and changing needs of dwellers. In this regard, the ramen structure has become popular owing to the growth of remodelling market, and construction companies tend to adopt flexible type multi-family housings to increase sales by appealing to their customers. However, there is a lack of domestic studies on the building components for the change of structure. As a result, further studies may have to be based on the foreign cases.
This study provides the fundamentals for developing a detachable 'Infill Component'(partition wall and built-in wall) though case studies of the movable infill system developed in Japan, where a few researches on building components have been conducted. By reviewing Japanese movable light-weight partition wall system and by showing a direction of easy assembly and detachability, this research introduces the infill system acceptable to the end-users who may want to remodel the interior to meet the changing needs by the stage and the style of their lives. The advantages of partition walls used in Japan are they are easy to assemble and construct, they can be easily disassembled and the components are reusable, and studs hold wiring and the wiring is also easily changeable.
