This paper is an attempt to understand Moon In Su's poems from ecological viewpoint. Though he can not be called as a conscious ecologist, we can notice his serious and profound ecological concerns in his poems. His concern can be classified into the following three types; eco-environmental concern, eco-life concern, and eco-ontological concern.
The concrete content of his eco-environmental concern in his poems seems to be related to the nature-directed attitude. "Jungsun Poems" and "Donggang Poems" are the examples of it, in which he reveals the love and longing of pure and uncontaminated state of human spirit. Also he expresses his expectations to the purification of human spirit through natural purity when humans attempt to follow the nature itself.
His eco-life concern reflects his ecological vision which gets away from human-centered attitude maintained since modern age. The integrated attitude which does not separate human from nature arises from the belief that man is a part of nature. Additionally, this attitude is related to his love toward the traditional life and culture and its restoration. He put his primary task on the restoration of admiration to the harmony between man and nature.
His ecological concern does not restricted to the field of natural environment and human life. The category can be expanded to the ontological area. The fundamental questions can be broadened to the area of the existence itself. Fundamental questions about ontological controversy and his understanding about ontological circulation in his poems are concrete examples of it. This attitude arises from his thought that ecological harmony is established upon its own value and we need to accept the natural procedures.
These diverse concerns will ultimately deepen our insight on ecology. Additionally this will enrich the meaning of ontology itself - in other words, its denotated and connotated meanings. This is one of the reason why we look forward to his future poetic career.
