Recently, it is thought that, in addition to the demand for installing basic facilities for conserving living environment such as sewage systems and waste combustion facilities, the demand for more pleasant environment to make a living comfortable has been increasing as people's way of thinking has been changed.
This study reviewed the literatures on the functions and effects of urban green spaces, examined the present situation on the green spaces of the Seoul Capital Region, developed the green space modular coordination for new towns, and applied this to a case study.
The approach developed in this study can be widely used to only in Korea but in other countries. For the old cities that have been existed, the present status on their green spaces must be evaluated, and then 'The Basic Plan on the City Park & Green Spaces' must be established by utilizing the guidelines suggested in this study in order to meet the environment performance standards, followed by periodic monitoring and evaluation.
