This study focuses on two major issues in regional development. First, this study examines how the concept of development from above or from below has been translated into policies and strategies in the field of regional development and how they have helped or hindered third world regional development. Secondly, this study attempts to explain the process and pattern of dynamic interdependent spatial development of an urban system as well as identify determinants of that development.
The main policy implication given by this study is that a government should analyze the prevailing interurban development process and pattern, and explore what factors have accounted for the observed trends. Such an examination may provide more reliable guidance to governments in developing a policy to reduce the variability and disparity of regional development.
