When urban planning in carried out, proper consideration must be given to the water quality improvement program in order to prevent serious environmental problems to the down stream. Research was conducted to get a proper methodology to reduce water pollution in city streams in this thesis.
The major conclusions of this study are ;
1. When urban planning is carried out, Environmental Impact Assessment be carefully performed considering environmental purity capacity and land utilization plan designed to ensure the maintenance of environmental water quality standards.
2. Water quality is currently controlled by permissible discharge standards expressed as concentration levels. However, the accumulation of pollutants over an extended period of time may induce serious water pollution. Therefore, the Environment Administration needs to control pollutant discharges in terms of aggregate quantities of pollution. These aggregate quantities must serve as limits in the urban planning process in order to ensure improvement in water quality.
3. Wastewater treatment facilities and garbage disposal areas must be separated from residential districts. Also, Rain water must be separated from domestic and industrial wastewater, so called seperate sewer system to ensure more efficient water pollution control.
4. Sufficient funds to improve the water quality of the crossing river of urban area to be estallished by securing funds from the pollution causing industries and others discharge pollutant.
5. The study on methodologies to improve the river quality should be continued, and environmental policies and countermeasures to improve the water quality should be effectively implemented.
