The aims of this study are to excavate the characteristics of sustainable neighborhood regeneration in the U.K. and extract its implication to our future neighborhood regeneration. For these purpose, this paper examines the concept and principles of sustainable development in human settlements and selects four sustainable urban neighborhood regeneration projects for case study such as Crown Street, Hulme, Greenwich Millennium Village and Poundbury. The characteristics of those projects are investigated based on following sectors; environmental sustainability, social sustainability, economic sustainability and cultural sustainability. The major finding results suggest as followings to us 1) to transform current high-rise and high-density housing redevelopment into sustainable low/mid-rise and high-density neighborhood regeneration, and develop the Korean models of settlement, 2) to change the car-oriented transportation mode into green mode by facilitating the usage of walking, bicycle and mass-transit, 3) to activate community participation in neighborhood regeneration process and build corporative partnerships between public and private sector, 4) to enhance the residents' economic sustainability by increasing the supply of rental/affordable housing and establishing self-sufficient local economic system, 5) to maximize the opportunity of social sustainability through enlarging the local cultural facilities and conservation of historic and cultural resources.
