The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the residential support for local environmental policies and the causal structure with which these factors are mutually related. To achieve the goal, this study first draws six hypotheses that explain the formation of residents' perception on environmental issues and the structure of policy supports from theoretical arguments and empirical findings of the previous studies. The hypotheses are then tested through a set of survey data on Gwangyang Bay area, where several industrial complexes are located. As the result, this study can confirm most of the presented hypotheses. Some of them are 1) Residents with higher education have more positive thought on the environmental management of the local government and company, 2) Residents with negative perception on the local pollution level tend to evaluate local governments' and industries' environmental policy efforts negatively, 3) Residents' environmental supports are affected both by local governments' and industries' environmental policy efforts and by the welfare improvement effect of industrial location. Overall, the findings of this paper imply that any environmental policies of local governments and industries can not be successfully implemented without the residents' positive perception on the reliability of the two policy parties.
