The purpose of the paper is analyze the literature expression and the historical reality in ‘Forbidden Quest’, the debut film of Kim Dae-Woo. The story pivots around Kim Yun-Seo, a well-mannered aristocrat whose restrained ego imprisons him into a safe, orderly but boring life. By chance he comes across an indecent book for the first time on the secret obscenity shop and feel excited at the book. He puts all his time and energy into the quest. Yun-Seo becomes a best-selling erotic novelist in the underground market at his very first attempt, later going on to write serial novels and adding obscene illustrations. The director often pokes fun at the pretentiousness of the yangban abou sex.
The film’s background is the Choson period seems a perfect setting for a bawdy sex romp. This is doubly true for its upper ‘yangban’ class, who are the epitome of reservation and restraint. Meanwhile as this film’s screenplay, the obscene picture and obscenity literature win their way to general popularity in Chosons’s last period.
