This study conducted an inquiry into the process of how science was accepted in China around the May Fourth Movement era by being transformed in its own unique way together with the manifestation of Chinese intellectuals' discussions about science. It seems that closely correlated the logic of the new culture movement that insisted on expanding the introduction of Western ideology to Chinese ideology. At this time, the problem as to how to deal with scientific objects is considered to precede in priority of importance to that of what to deal with in discussions about science. Emphasis upon scientific methodology is characterized by having such a scientistic trait as expanded to political, ideological, and world views from the objective view of the world in discussions about science.
This study prosecuted an inquiry into Zhang Junmai's view of science that may be said to be an extension or a collection of discussions about science in the May Fourth Movement era, along with the elucidation of transitions of views of science from the theory of culture in the May Fourth Movement era to the scientific and pedants' discussions about science.
