In recent years, a domestic refineries and petrochemical plants being encouraged to adopt risk management programs such as risk-based inspection (RBI) because they can enhance safety management and maintenance cost saving in Korea. RBI is an integrated methodology that factors risk into inspection effectiveness and maintenance decision making. This paper describes the methodology and the results of application to CDU included in the refinery plant using the KGS-RBI™ program developed by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation based on the API RP 580(Risk Based Inspection), API 581(Base Resource Document) codes. The results are expected useful in determining to manage an inspection planning, an optimization inspection technique to the next turnaround and a mitigation action for the risk reduction control.
