Annual sales quantities of pesticide active ingredients are 24,000~26000 tons and gross sales is one billion won approximately in Korea. The rate of dependence on imports of technical grades is expected to rise above 80%.
Pesticide management in Korea has been improved since Pesticide Management Act established 1957. We have registration system science 1997 that pesticide product item has 10 years valid. So all pesticides have to apply re-registration 6 months before expired date with requiring data package.
To improve pesticide safety management, restricting risk suspected pesticide uses and requiring data for risk assessment, elevating data reliability to consolidate the test facilities, revitalizing registration of biological pesticides and expanding pesticide registration for minor crops and export promising crops by authority test trial and arrange are required.
