An analytical method was developed to determine residues of tolfenpyrad, and two major metabolites including PT-CA and PCA in soils using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Three analytes were extracted with acetone/water mixture from soil samples. For PT-CA and PCA analysis, portion of the aqueous extract was washed with n-hexane or dichloromethane to remove nonpolar co-extractives. Further purification of the tolfenpyrad extract was followed by adsorption chromatography using silica gel.
