The objective of this study was to develop aspartate-kinase-inhibiting herbicides. Aspartate kinase [E.C. 2.7.2.4], the target of newly developed herbicides, catalyzes the first step of aspartate-series amino acids that are essential in many metabolic and physiological processes in plants. The objective was attained by synthesizing O-benzylserine methyl ester and N-benzoylaspartic acid dimethyl ester, and examining their herbicidal activity in vitro and in vivo. Structural analogues of amino acid aspartate and serine were synthesized (KP-AAd-01~30) and their chemical structures were identified with 1H-NMR and GC-MS analysis. Most of KP-AAd compounds reduced the activity of aspartate kinase extracted from maize leaves at the concentration of 1.33 ppm. Especially, KP-AAd-09 and 21 inhibited the enzyme activity by 40%. Such inhibition, however, was not found from the enzyme extracted from cucumber leaves. These results suggest that the KP-AAd compounds could inhibit aspartate kinase extracted from narrow-leaved plants. Most of KP-AAd compounds strongly inhibited the growth of duckwee ... 전체 초록 보기
