The purposes of this study were two-fold: first, to propose valuable managerial implications at the international level for the DMO(Destination Management Organization) and SMTEs(Small and Medium sized Tourism Enterprises) in Korea by comparing and analyzing the tourism web sites in the APEC(Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) region, second, to provide recommendations that may be taken by APEC member economies to reduce the digital divide between member economies, which is being bigger.
Due to various levels of e-business infrastructures in the region, the researchers divided 21 APEC member economies into the two groups: leader/contender group and follower/laggard group using six criteria developed by Economist Intelligence Unit. Selected web sites of DMOs and SMTEs for each group were then evaluated and analyzed. The results of the study provided the characteristics of web sites according to the two groups, and the implications and recommendations were proposed on the basis of the characteristics.
