Precipitation samples were collected at Anmyeon, the west coast of Korean Peninsula from January 1997 to December 2003. These samples were analyzed for the concentration of 9 major ionic components (F?, Cl?, NO₃?,SO₄²?, Na?, NH₄?, K?, Mg²?, Ca²?) with including pH and an electric conductivity. The 187 samples verified by the data quality assurance (evaluating the ion balance, comparing the measured conductivity with the calculated conductivity) were used for the data analysis. During the study period, the volume-weighted average pH was found to be 4.8 and the precipitation acidity showed an increasing trends. From the frequency survey on the precipitation acidity, we could find that the frequency of pH between 4.5 and 5.0 for the total precipitation samples was 38% and the frequency of pH below 5.0 was 74.6%. The rate of non-seasalt ion was found to be 52% and showed great increasing trends from 47.4% in 1997 to 74.9% in 2003. Although the precipitation acidity is generally affected by the interaction of acidifying species (nss-SO₄²?, NOO₃?) and neutralizing species(NH₄?, nss-Ca²?), we could find that the acidifying species than the neutralizing species have greater effect on the precipitation acidity at Anmyeon Island. The ratio of nss-SO₄²? to NO₃? is was 1.75, indicating that the contribution rates of sulfuric acids and nitric acids on the precipitation acidity are 63.6% and 36.4%, respectively.
