Levels of glucose, insulin, testosteron and growth hormone have been related to exercise. However, the determinants of these hormone concentrations are not established. The purpose of this paper to evaluate the effects of combined exercise(aerobic + resistance exercise) on the changes in blood glucose, insulin, testosterone and growth hormone in elderly men. Seven men aged 62-70 years, 70kg above ideal body weight, completed a 12-week program consisting of aerobic and resistance training.
Insulin concentration significantly increased after exercise(aerobic+resistance) compared to the control group, whereas no differerences were observed between groups.
Testosterone and growth hormone concentration significantly increased after exercise(aerobic + resistance) compared to the control group.
The above results show that a moderate aerobic and resistance exercise protocol for the improvement of strength endurance, seems to be a sufficient stimuls that increases insulin, testosterone and growth hormone concentrations in elderly men.
