Endo Shusaku(엔도 슈사쿠, 1923~1996) won recognition and stands unchallenged in Modern Japanese Literature. He was consistent in metaphysical religious subjects from the age of 18, when he wrote "Metaphysical GodㆍReligious God", to the age of 70, when he wrote "Deep River" which is his posthumous work. Accordingly, most of the proceeding studies about his works have been focused on his intention as a writer and religious issues which Endo Shusaku, a Catholic, wanted to talk about in his works; therefore, the logic and characters in his fiction have not been dealt with thoroughly yet.
In this thesis, I placed great emphasis upon the literary works as art so I tried to exclude a Christian study method. The structure of his works and the works themselves are analyzed here in a narrator way (katarite) that has been settled as today's literature study method.
In "The Woman that I dumped", focusing on the structure of the novel, I studied the internal consciousness structure of the main character "I", who writes〈a journal〉and becomes aware of love through "Morita Mits".
We can find the significance of the works that he had intended in that he made great efforts to confront fundamental problems of human beings and pursue the cure and relief of human souls that are sick and groan with pain. In other words, he sought after the realization of love in a Christian way through the methodology of various novels. The message in Endo Shusaku's works is that anyone can gain the tender love of God equally. That was what he wanted to deliver to readers and the ultimate goal that he himself wanted to reach.
