Caves are mystic gates to the Underworld and rich of symbols of cults, myths, and tales. Starting from the Paleolithic they were recognized as the territories of other dimensions. From the beginning of time caves played roles of safety place, mother's womb, birth and rebirth, starting point and focus of life, center of the Universe. In traditional mythology caves often were connected with Gods' and ancestors' images. They were locations of the birthplaces of Gods and heroes. According to folklore it's hard for humans to reach the dawn of the caves settled by dwarfs, mountain demons and guarding dragons. From the archaeological point of view caves are very attractive as the locations of specific (complex or mixed) types of sites. New information on the caves is traditionally brought by professional and amateur-speleologists. For example, the data on the series of caves near Bogopol village in Zerkal'naya River valley (Kavalerovo district) and surveys in Malaya Nikholaevskaya Cave in Partizanskaya River valley in the Maritime Region.
