Displays based on flexible plastic substrates are emerging technologies with potential applications to foldable and wearable display. When compared to glass substrate, plastic substrates offer the advantages of low cost, lightness and flexibility. However, the moisture resistance of plastic substrates is low. The permeation of water vapor and oxygen through a plastic substrate causes chemical change in active layers in a display unit, resulting in damage or malfunction of flexible displays. Many researchers studied on barrier films based on polyethylene terephthalate, but reports on the characteristics of barrier films on the polyethylene naphthalate(PEN) and polyethersulfone (PES) are very rare. In this study, silicon oxynitride films deposited on PEN and PES substrates by ion beam assisted deposition techniques have been investigated for water vapors permeation barrier applications. Also, effects of plasma treatments on the plastic substrates have been investigated. silicon oxynitride thin films were prepared, using ion beam assisted electron beam evaporation method, at room temperature with varying of reactive gas N₂ flow rate. We used the SiO powder pellet as evaporation source material. The same deposition rate were used to deposit all silicon oxynitride films with the same thickness of 70 nm. The struc ... 전체 초록 보기
