In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of an aircraft landing gear has been analyzed and then the optimal design of the landing gear using the dynamic characteristics has been conducted. The landing gear is modelled as a 2 DOF system and the equations of motion for the landing gear are solved numerically. The effect of parameters of the landing gear on the dynamic characteristics and shock energy absorption of the landing gear has been evaluated. It has been found that the parameters of the shock strut play the most prominent role on the dynamic characteristics. It turns out that efficiency and dynamic characteristics of the landing gear can be improved by carrying out the optimal design.
