Electronic Stability Program(ESP) is a vehicle dynamics control system that supports a driver in critical driving situations. ESP controls dynamic vehicle motion in emergency situations, and allows a vehicle to follow a desired course by the driver. When ESP is active, the driver feels unfamiliar by its own braking.
In this research, a lateral acceleration sensor on each wheel was added to conventional ESP with yaw rate sensors. This addition allows ESP to react quicker to the vehicle's Understeer/Oversteer. Thus, maintaining the vehicle's stability, even with lower brake pressure, becomes possible, as well as reducing the driver's unfamiliar feeling.
