In the Article I have attempted to survey und evaluate main streams in Korean Christian social ethics since the beginning of the 1990s. The year 1990 has significance because the real existing socialism broke down at that time. At the experience of such a grandiose change people have come to the insight that they must articulate their ideas of progress and social justice in a different way from the past. In my opinion, such a comprehension has direct or indirect influences on the formation of Korean Christian social ethics. Therefore I consider it meaningful to analyze how Korean theologians have developed social ethics in the period.
In the analysis I have paid attention to the fact that Christian social ethics have differentiated in some spheres, so that people could speak of the flourishing period of sphere ethics. Some spheres have been covered by only one theologian, but Christian social ethics have begun to take the tendency to specialization.
With such considerations in mind I have classified Christian social ethics into four major spheres, namely: 1. ethics of the political, 2. ethics of the economical, 3. ethics of the cultural, and 4. bio-ethics.
Firstly, in the sphere of the political I have examined some themes and polemics of political ethics, public ethics and peace ethics. Secondly, in the economic area I have investigated some developments in economic ethics, business ethics and environment ethics. Thirdly, regarding the cultural I have analyzed some discourses in cultural ethics and feminist ethics. Lastly, I have gone into complicated, but honest discussions in the area of bio-ethics.
