Korean leftists took an anti-trusteeship line from October 1945. The Korean Communist Party(KCP) changed its attitude toward the trusteeship issue in the beginning of 1946. Its new line was a pro-Moscow agreement of December 1945. Rightists had maintained a consistent policy of an anti-trusteeship line since October 1945. So, the heated controversy between left and right became one origin of the division of Korea.
On receiving the news that the Soviet supported the Korean trusteeship while the American favored the direct independence of Korea on the 27th of December 1945, the KCP leaders withheld the official announcement about the trusteeship issue. But the report proved false during the last ten days of January 1946; the majority of Koreans already had an anti-trusteeship and anti-Soviet sentiment. The rightists, especially Kim Ku's the Korean Provisional Government(KPG) took the initiative and carried out a coup d'etat against the US Military Government in Korea(USAMGIK) in the beginning of 1946. The KPG's opposition resulted in failure because of America's power.
In the meantime, the Soviet authority in North Korea persuaded Park Hun Young, the KCP chairman, to change his attitude about trusteeship. After complicated consideration, the KCP converted its trusteeship line in order to hold in hegemony standing against the KPG.
