As we move toward the 21st century, knowledge-based information or knowledge-intensive high-technology industries are expected to be the most critical and the strategic industries for the survival and the growth of the nation. This expectation together with rapidly changing world environment requires new paradigm dramatically different from existing ones. Such two major knowledge-based industries are becoming recognized as the most important industries of new paradigm in Taejon economy toward the 21st century.
The purpose of paper is to explore the current conditions and future vision of the two major industries in Taejon metropolitan city to identify major problems to guide more effective future policy and strategies of the two major industries. In order to more accelerate their development, I selected more specific fields from the two major industries. In the high-technology industries this research selected three fields include microchemistry, biotechnology, and information technology as well as three fields which are software, image & multimedia, and engineering & research and development in the knowledge-based Information industries. Finally this research suggested strategies for each industry in terms of both policy and physical aspects.
