This paper is purposed to try to find improvement direction and the problems of Church social work by reviewing the change of social context that have an influence on social work and considering the cope and the issues of social work practice.
For this purpose, First, this paper examined the social environment that social work context is changed by. The environment of our society is affected by the conditions of domestic and abroad. The conditions that influence on social work context are an appearance of the globalism and a information-intensive society, the change of population and family structure, and the change of life style of the people.
To coping with the situation, problems that a domain of social welfare is faced with are extremely diverse. this paper considered problems of social work practice according to Payne's 'social work elements'-context, social worker, client. The results are that client group is expanded and client's needs are more complicated. and social workers are faced with need of specialization. There are demands on responsibility of social work practice, residents participant, private management of social work.
Finally, this paper discusses the direction of development plan and task of the church social work practice. The task of the church social work practice is as follows. 1) We have to define a clear working definition of church of social work. 2) We prepare for church social work that reflects the change of social context and present a guideline of church social work that is suitable the condition of recent church and the need of society. 3) Many of the churches must practice social work together, and must practice in concert with social welfare instruments. 4) We facilitate development of knowledge, value and skill of church social work to raise the professional of church social work. 5) A specialist of church social work is trained by a professional education, so we have to develop an educational institution and a curriculum for a education of church social work.
