The purpose of this article is to reveal the cause of the rapid growth of Korean protestant church in general and some mammoth churches in particular and the consequent effects of them. To achieve this purpose, I explored the backgrounds of the church growth in Korea during 1970s and 1980s, which includes the relation between Korean church growth and mentality from the perspective Van Peursen developed, modernism, and Korean economy. Next, I examined ethical aspects of Korean church focused on the successions of churches by the sons of the incumbents. Finally, I tried to anticipate the future of Korean church based some negative aspects such as the incarnation of postmodernism to Korean society, the rapid growth of Roman Catholic Church in Korea in recent years contrary to Korean protestant church which is ailing in terms of growth, and negative viewpoint of Korean people toward Korean protestant church.
