The purpose of this study is to review, examine and analyze the cases of employing CFT columns for high-rise buildings in Korea and overseas in order to investigate the feasibility of employing the columns for the construction of high-rise buildings. For this, fire-resistance of non-coated square CTF columns was examined for modeling high-rise buildings (10 stories & 50 stories). Fire-resistance of the buildings for which non-coated square CFT columns were used was evaluated using the fire-resistance design equations derived from the previous studies. This study showed that the columns on the upper floors of the 50-story-skyscraper could meet the legal requirement of 3-hour-fire resistance without fireproofing coating. And, it was found that reinforcing the fire-resistance of concrete or employing fireproofing coating outside the columns would satisfy the legal requirement of 1-hour and 2-hour fire-resistance for the middle floors and lower floors, respectively. As concrete strength increases, fire-resistance improves and the possibility of satisfying 3-hour-requirement without coating increases. As span length increases, the axial load ratio on the column increases and fire-resistance deteriorates, which means that the possibility of 3-hour-fireproofing without coating diminishes. Consequently, it is needed to restrain axial load ratio through the proper measures in structural design.
