This thesis is making a depth study in Chines classics. The ultimate purpose of this studying is to investigate the relation Confucian view of the body, soul and death. The results this study are summarized as follows.
It is very interesting matter whether or not confucianest are interested in the eternal life and soul after bodily death. The answer to this ques-tion is "no".
One is the immortality of my soul or mind that keep on living in the next after this world. The other is the immortality of my reputation that will remain in the memory of my family and all the people who had ever known me even though my life is brought to an end.
Confucianists do not only have concern about the former, but also deny it. The confucianist point of view about body and death is neither theistic and ontological one to insist on the immortality of soul, nor materialistic and biological one to admit the end of life.
For confucianists, body is a cohesion of soul(energy), death is a disper-sion of soul(energy).
