We evaluated the cardinal temperatures; the base, optimum, or maximum temperature for a high germination of Aster koraiensis. Seeds of A. koraiensis were germinated at 4℃ intervals from 12 to 32℃. The time course of germination was fitted using a logistic function. The highest maximum potential germination was obtained at 24℃, whereas the lowest occurred at 32℃, but with no significant difference among 16, 20, or 28℃. Rate of increase in germination was the highest at 12℃ and declined dramatically at 32℃. There was no significant difference in rate of increase at 20 to 32℃. At 12℃, time scale constant was the highest but the lowest at 28℃. We calculated cardinal temperatures with beta distribution function and achieved 7.9, 24.8, and 36.0℃ as the base, optimum, and maximum temperatures of A. koraiensis for germination, respectively.
