According to Gilles Deleuze, the elementary unit of language, the statement is the order-word. He insists the function of language is not to be informational and communicational, but to transmit an order-word. That is, language is made not to be believed but to be obeyed, and to compel obedience. The order-word in the function of language has the characteristics of implicit presupposition and indirect discourse. Also, statement is related to certain actions in life. Thus, the zone of language cannot be independent of pragmatics. The meaning of each statement in pragmatics appears through an assemblage. The assemblage consists of a mechanic enunciation and a collective assemblage of enunciation. The former means content, the latter expression.
In this sense, Deleuze emphasizes the power relations inherent in language. Language enforces a codification of the world according to orthodox categories and classification, its various speech-acts shaping, guiding and policing thought and behavior. This is called the politics of language. Certainly, the order-word in language can induce corporeal and incorporeal transformations. As a result, subjects follow the process of subjection in the transmission of the order-word. Foucault thinks of this process as the operation of invisible power.
Deleuze solves the matter of power in language in terms of minor language, expecially, chromatic linguistics. Chromatic linguistics is to emphasize the continuous variation of language, in other words, to place the statement in the continuous variation through all the prosodic, semantic, syntactical, and phonological variables that can affect it in the shortest moment of time. This kind of language can be generally applied to theatrical language. It is the example of positive and creative flight he stresses. The important thing is flight from order-word, to bring forth the order-word of the order-word. Certainly, the model of this flight is theatrical language.
